Jun Tan is a multicultural pastor and biblical teacher whose life has been a journey of transformation shaped by his diverse experiences and deep faith. Born in Tianjin, China, he grew up in Sichuan Province during the tumultuous years of the Cultural Revolution. After finishing high school, he worked as a tea farmer in Hunan Province before heading off to study rocket science at the National University of Defense Technology and studied in China and Australia.
In 1998, Jun had a life-changing encounter with Christ that sparked a new chapter in his life, and he started theological studies. He quickly discovered that pastoral ministry was not exactly rocket science, but it was a challenge he embraced wholeheartedly. Rev. Jun’s ministry journey has seen him minister at several Baptist churches in Melbourne and as an adjunct lecturer at Whitley College, Melbourne.
His current role is as senior pastor at Balwyn Baptist Church, a multicultural English-speaking congregation with over a century of history. His unique life experiences and cross-cultural connections have made him a perfect fit for this role. His Friday night online Bible study in Mandarin has drawn Jesus followers from other cities and countries. He co-authored a publication on intercultural conversation in theological education, showcasing his commitment to bridging cultural divides in ministry.
