Fred Astle (Tainui – New Zealand) works in a shared leadership model with Visionwest Waka Whakakitenga’s Tumu Whakarae/CEO. Fred oversees the whānau-facing support services provided by Visionwest.
In his previous role as Head of Māori Development and Education, he led the Māori leadership team to support Kaupapa Māori development across Visionwest. Fred has extensive experience in Māori healthcare and education, including work with government groups, various tertiary institutions and other non-profits. He is an Honorary Prof. Teacher Fellow in Surgery at The University of Auckland and is the Director of Kaupapa Māori for The University of Auckland, Surgical and Translational Research Centre, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.
