Brisbane is the gateway to the sunny state of Queensland.
Weather: The city’s tropical climate makes it an attractive year-round location to visit. Although it will be the Australian winter, we can expect temperatures to be around 17-22 degrees Celsius during the day with light jackets needed at night.
Local Activities: Located on the Brisbane River, there is much to do in Brisbane and within a short drive. The Southbank precinct where the Convention Centre is located offers a wide variety of activities for all ages from a created beach (with lifeguards on duty) to museums, art galleries and performing art venues. Restaurants serving a wide variety of cuisines line the precinct. Directly across the river is the downtown area with more activities and shopping opportunities.
The CityCat public transport system allows you to move efficiently between points in the city via the river. A couple of miles up the river is Lone Pine Sanctuary where you can have up close encounters with Australian wildlife, including holding a koala or feeding kangaroos by hand.
Across Australia: Within an hour’s drive of Brisbane, you can visit the famous beaches of the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast or visit the Australia Zoo developed by “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin, which is still run by his family.
If you have more time to spend ‘Down Under,’ regular direct flights will have you on the Great Barrier Reef, visiting Uluru, or seeing the sights of Sydney, Melbourne, or other parts of Australia within an hour or two. Learn more about what to see and do while in Australia.
